Bolivia / Water, 1990-1993
In 1990 I was granted the opportunity to revisit Bolivia. The mandate was to help launch a regional watershed management project, PROMIC, as an expert for the Swiss Government’s Agency for Development and Cooperation. I spent almost three years in Bolivia’s Cochabamba Valley building a programme that would employ up to 25 engineers, technicians and administrative personnel, as well as 100 construction workers. The project’s many areas of activity ranged from sustainable hillside agriculture and agro-forestry to torrent control and high-tech research in hydrology, climatology and remote sensing. During these years, photography gave way to a much broader approach to communication involving corporate design projects, PR, training for small farmers, reports, films and conferences.
